Paul Thomas Anderson’s political thriller One Battle After Another emerged as the leading contender when the Vancouver Film Critics Circle (VFCC) unveiled its nominations for the best films of 2025 on Tuesday.

The film earned seven nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and acting nods for Leonardo DiCaprio as well as supporting performances by Benicio Del Toro, Teyana Taylor, and Sean Penn.

Close behind are several other awards-season standouts. Chloé Zhao’s Shakespeare-inspired drama Hamnet received four nominations, while Joachim Trier’s Cannes-winning Sentimental Value also secured four, including Best International Film and acting recognition for Stellan Skarsgård, Elle Fanning, and Renata Reinsve. Ryan Coogler’s genre-bending vampire film Sinners picked up two nominations.
